Karate classes for children and adults

Our classes teach traditional Shotokan Karate, a Japanese martial art, in a friendly, structured environment. Students of all ages learn and grow together — children (8+), adults, and families. We welcome students from Northstowe, Longstanton, Willingham, Oakington, and the wider Cambridge area. Many people join us when looking for Cambridge karate classes that are supportive and confidence‑building.

Our classes are suitable for all ages and abilities, 8+, including children, teens, adults, and families.

Karate is more than a martial art. It helps develop confidence, focus, fitness, strength, and resilience. Every student progresses at their own pace, whether they’re brand new or returning after a break.

We make sure everyone feels welcome from the moment they arrive. Our instructors guide students through each step, helping them build skills safely and steadily. Parents often tell us they appreciate the balance we strike: traditional training delivered in a friendly, encouraging environment.

Students learn to work hard and support each other. They grow in confidence and take pride in what they achieve, both in the dojo and in everyday life.

What to expect

Karate consists of 3 parts - kihon (basic techniques), kumite (sparring) and kata (forms). You can see what a typical lesson looks like on our "What to expect" page. Here are some examples of students practising all three aspects of karate:
